Independent Truck Company is a skateboard truck manufacturer based in Santa Cruz, California established in 1978. The trucks are manufactured at the Emrico foundry, in the Bay area of San Francisco. The company was founded by Richard Novak, Jay Shiurman, Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson. First set of trucks to make a public appearance was the Stage 1 on May 23, 1978. First and original team rider of Independent was Rick Blackhart. In 2003 Independent Trucks released a book „Built To Grind: 25 Years of Hardcore Skateboarding” - 320 pages of fast action skateboarding featuring the world’s best skateboarders and most renowned skate spots.
